Chapter 6 & 11 post

Chapter 6 : Digital Technologies in the Classroom
Based on information in Chapter 6, I would prefer to teach in a classroom that had more digital technologies because it has many benefits to help the students learn in a fun and interactive way.  I think that using the computer as a main source of technology will be especially important for my subject of teaching AYA Science education.  The computer would allow students to do the necessary additional research for reports and various science projects.  It would also allow a place for students to blog and post discussion questions for peer help or so that I could also answer any of their questions.  I would also like to teach with more digital technologies because I think that devices such as a digital camera, scanners, and portable storage devices would be very important for the students to transport data, scan in original data, and take images of results etc.  I would also like to use electronic whiteboards as a way for the students to learn some of the many models and diagrams necessary in science courses.  This would be an interactive and visual way for the students to learn, hopefully making it more fun and beneficial to the students.

Chapter 11 : Audiovisual technologies
One traditional audio technology device is a talking book.  I would use it in the classroom by having the students listen to recorded readings of science journals on controversial issues.  After listening to it, I would have the students write their opinion about the science issue backing it up with facts and examples from the article.  An emerging audio technology device is the internet radio.  It could be used in the classroom by having the students listen to a science radio channel.  After listening to the radio channel the students could have a class discussion about things they heard and important upcoming technologies and advances.
A traditional visual device is a VHS tape. I could use it in my classroom by showing the students videos of related science and health films.  For example, School House Rock has really good videos to start the units of health systems to give the students a basis for what they will be learning in the upcoming unit.  An emerging visual device that could be used in the classroom is a document camera.  I would like to implement this device into my curriculum by showing zoomed in images of leaves, dissected animals, diagrams and charts shown in textbooks and much more.  This would be great to show students things up close on a big screen so that it can be described in clarity for a better understanding.
